Why was the Pontiac Sunfire discontinued?

I am in the process of looking for my first car and was wondering why this car is no longer being made...

Also, can anyone suggest a good first car for a 16 year old girl with a $4,000 ish budget?
I am planning on getting a car at the end of Fall.

Pontiac was not selling enough of them. I would recommend a Chevy Cobalt. They are very similar to the sunfire and very affordable

The Sunfire got replaced by the G5, like the Cobalt replaced the Cavalier. Essentialy, they went from the J Platform to the Delta Platform, so it's pretty much the same car except everything is different, if you catch my drift. I don't think sales had much to do with it.
