Will a 460 from a 79 ford fit into a 77 Firebird? What will if not?

Heads are warped on the engine, currently a 400 6.6 in the firebird. The guy told me it was going to cost 750 to repair which is insane. I've been dong devious amounts of Internet search to find some new heads, but haven't seem to cross anything worth looking into. The motor is allready half ripped out of the car so I was thinking about replacing it if nothing else works. I've found several motors that looks promising, but no clue if they'll fit. The first is from the question stated above, the 460. Secondly there's a 400 with a 727 out of a charger, not sure of the age. I was told to try and find a 455, 389, or just another 400, but do 400's differ how they are placed in the engine? Basically can I take a 400 from a chevy or other car make thats carburetted and place it into my firebird? Will a 454 fit? Lots of questions, thanks in advance.

Almost any GM V8 will fit with adaptors, Chevy, Pontiac, Oldsmobile. If the heads are warped they can be machined so I'm not sure why you think replacing the whole engine will be cheaper. If you dont like the price try another machine shop.

When you figure in the cost of another engine and the cost of parts and labor to install it, 750 isn't that bad in my book. Plus there should be less headaches. Just my .02.
