After replacing lights in the cluster, I now have no power engaging the starter. Engaging the silonoid at the starter Will start the engine but only for three or four seconds then everything shuts down. All fuses are in tact with the exception of in line fuses that I don't have access to. The system acts as if it were in theft mode that still doesn't explain the shift selector lights not working. I'm still thinking maybe a fusible link somewhere has blown but have no idea where to find them.
So to recap; starter is good, the battery is good, fuses are good, it will start when jumped at the solenoid, but then shuts down after a few seconds . The key turns on everything except engaging the starter. I am stumped !!!! For the record this is a 2005 Pontiac Montana base model.

did you replace the lights in the cluster with the battery connected?
do your brake lights work?

I removed the cluster to replace lights, while the cluster was out I back fed the board to ensure diodes(leds) were in correct polarity alignment . This is the one thing I'm concerned about. I will check brake lights , not sure what that connection that has....

the starter system requires your foot on the brake pedal to activate the starter
if the brake light switch fails no lights no start

so the security light is displaying a solid light not blinking?
you are correct that the 2005 does not require a foot on the brake.

With the key ON, I can jump the power at the starter but after 3-5seconds, the relays click and the engine shuts down.
I had no issues with the vehicle until I worked on the instrument cluster. At which point the gear select indicator lights ceased to function, and when engaging the key the starter will not engage. There is power to the key and power out.
