Installing new door panels from Ames in our '66 Catalina Convertible. The 1966 Body by Fischer manual shows only the thin plastic washers behind the levers, no foam washers or springs are depicted. Ames advises the foam washers and springs are present from the factory and should be installed but cannot say where or in what order they should go. Does anyone know how these should be properly assembled, inside or outside the door panel, etc and why the official manual would not depict them?
Thank you!

IIRC the PF298 foam washer is closest to the door, the PF299D spring is used for the window regulator handles and small diameter end is to the door, the large diameter end pushes against the PF299C flat plastic piece that is closest to the crank handle, the PF299DB clip is put on the crank handle. The crank handle is pushed on the shaft and clicks into place.

Here is a 1966 Camero diagram. I added notes in red. It has been about 30 years since I assembled mine. The only difference between my car and the Camero, is I had two window regulators in each door, one for the vent wing and one for the window.

Thank you! That is great info.
Assuming the spring and the plastic washer go on the car interior side of the door panel directly behind the levers, is that correct?
Does the foam washer go in between the door sheet metal and the backside of the door panel?
No foam washer or spring is depicted with the door latch lever, is that correct, no foam washer or spring used here?
Thanks again!!

Parts catalog group 10.806 lists the spring for the handle. You should get a copy of the two books. One is parts illustration and the other is parts listing.

Spring goes behind both the window regulators and the door handle. I had two window regulators in the door of my 1964, one for the vent and one for the window. I had to use 3 springs for each door and 3 thick foam washers. I just reused what was already on the car from the factory.

What is "Parts catalog group" and where could these books be obtained?
Thanks!

So do all three parts, the thick foam washer, spring and thin plastic washer go on the interior side of the door panel, between the door panel and the window cranks and latch handle, and in that order, from door panel to cranks?
Thank you!

Try Ebay. All GM divisions broke the parts into groups, 0 is engine, 10 is body, etc.

The thin plastic washer goes between the door panel and the handle (protects the door panel from rubbing against the metal handles).
The thick washer is up against the door, the spring with the small diameter closest to the door against the thick washer. then the door panel, then the thin plastic washer, the handle with the clip installed is pushed into place on the shaft. I hold the thin washer and handle with clip as one piece when I install them.

The spring pushes the door panel up against the handle, the thin plastic washer protects the panel from getting worn by turning the handle.
