I am putting my gauges back in the car (along with instrument panel) et. The circuit on the back of the gauges has lots of bulbs that you twist out and back in. There is one wire coming from the back of the gauges that I have no idea what it is for or where it goes to. See pics. . . what is this? I cannot find in any books. Thanks . . . JIMB

Figured one item out. The light is for the high beam lights indicator. The part I cannot figure out - the wire coming from the light is a fiber optic light . . which does work. Question is, where does this plug into? It has to be close to the area because the fiber optic wire (yes, in 1968) can't be more than 18 inches long. Who has the answer ?

I think I have part of the answer. The fiber optic is suppose to light the key hole up. I guess it attaches to the metal ring the key ignition goes through on the dach. Maybe the fiber optic is hooked up to the courtesy lights and when you either get in the car or turn the light switch all the way to the left the ignition hole gets lit up so you know where to put the key. I could have used a fiber optic courtesy light on a couple dates back when I was young.. . .

The fiber optic light is not connected to the high beam light on the back of the gauges but hooked up to one of the display lights on the back of the gauges. Which makes more sense. Headlight switch is pulled, the display lights come on, and the fiber optic takes light to illuminate the key switch. Solved. Thanks . . . JIMB

glad you figured it out, time for the factory shop manual

interesting enough. I have the shop manual, body manual and assembly manual . . and I cannot find anything about a fiber optic wire coming off the gauges circuit to the key assembly.

ok. After some additional mmmmmm. I see this fiber optic wire actually fits into the ash trey in the dash (and NOT the ignition like I originally thought.) There is actually a clip on the ash trey and a hole to put the end of the fiber optic. Oh well. Done with this mystery. Thanks . . . JIMB

That makes more sense because my Goat does not have an illuminated ignition key.
