Would it hurt to paint the drums on my 1994 pontiac firebird?

i just replaced the wheel cyclinders and brake shoes on my car today and i want to make my drums look good too. the drums now are real rusty looking and i was planning on painting the outside of them. will it hurt them. i know not to paint the inside of the drum but will it hurt to paint the outside of them?
do i actually need heat paint?; how hot heat paint

It won't hurt. They have high temperature canned spray paints that will withstand temperatures up to 4000 degreesF at any auto parts store.

No, just keep the paint off the shoes and disk..
