I have a 2000 WS 6 and have put gears and a cat back in it so far. I want to break into the 12s so I need a little more juice. I was just wondering what other people are doing that has produced good power.

I would like to add that this is on street tires not drag radials or I would allready be able to run 12s as it sits but its my daily driver and i dont want to chew up the rear end so i stuck with street tires. As long as the tires are warm I havent had much trouble hooking up but a combo of power and suspension is probably what I need. any help would be great

Go with a Hypertech chip, itll cost around 200 dollars, and itll give about another 40 H.P. and 1-20 LBS of TQ. That should help, plus If you get the throttle body insert from hypertech, it gives instant throttle response. What it is, is a little plate that goes in the throttle body, and it is called the cyclone I think, and it rushes the air in there instead of litting it spool around for a while first. It only cost about 20 dollars, no more Power, but INSTANT response. It works wonders, I was doubt full at first, but Now Im impressed.

is that the same chip i can use to reprogram my speedo to account for tire size and gear ratio???

Yes, they have 2 versions, the " street runner" and the "Thermorunner" The first one is ust your basic one, the secont one is the most powerful street legal one, you need a 160 degree thermostat to run that one to make sure you dont detonate. Ii have the Thermorunner. It works really well, you can change the govener ( if equiped ) speedo, Tire size, air fuel mixture, timing etc. Its really popular.

P.S. You can tune the chip to what other mods you already have, IE: if you put headers, or intake, or bigger injectors on, you can tell the chip and itll modify the power curve even more. SO its endless. You can always get more and more out of that chip.

where do you get them for 200$ i cant find em for less then 350??

Hypertech online has them for 180 for the thurmalrunner chip. Im from Canada, and We pay more than you guys do, and I got mine for like 200 bucks. I think it was 198.99 actually, I got it from MOPAC. Jet and EDGE have chips to, but not as sophisticated as hypertech. Do you have an autovalue? Its like NAPA. You should have NAPA eh? Try one of those places, if you want to, let me know, I can get you one. My E-mail is goriak_z28@hotmail.com. I can get it sent to you from my work, and they can bill you. Youd get my discount, and only pay 198.00 canadian. So like 150 or so U.S. Keep me informed.

wow
that is really nice of you I will probably take you up on that. thanks for all the help you seem to know your f bodies

hypertech sucks, Don't even mess with it. It is a waste of money down the road. Get a air lid, and do all of the free mods. I was in the 12 amlost stock. Now I have a nice heads and cam package running in the 11's. As far as tuning goes get a shop that has ls1edit or hptuners and get it dyno tuned. You can also look into a set of long tube headers, pacesetter makes a buget set that flow very well. If you need anything just go to ls1tech.com and look into the sponsors. you can send me a pm on there or here and I can point you in the right direction. I hate it when people make bad choices and spend twice the money because they didn't do it right the first time.

Hypertech is actually a really GREAT way to make HP, as well as fine tune the rest of the small things like tranny shifts, governer, tire size etc. Some dont like it, lots do, personal preference, all I know is, I drive my cars HARD, and it has NEVER let me down, works well with these cars. Although, I do agree, that a dyno tune does work well also, it is also 5 times as expensive for the SAME effect.

I paid 450 for my dyno tune. And I picked up 50 hp. Also they monitor the air/fuel ratio, which if you are using a power adder, you want spot on. I know, its $250 more than the Hypertech, but I like the piece of mind. To me with the Dyno tune, you can make a change and see what is hapening. With the Hyper, you make a change and hope it is right. Also, with the Dyno tune, you are adjusting the open loop performance, which is what you are running at WOT. I think the Hypertech adjusts the closed loop parameters. Or does it just add base timing?

450 for dyno time is a great price. I paid around $600 but my car is carburated so it took longer with re-jetting and playing with the timming. I would say that no matter what power adders you put on your car I would also dyno tune the thing.

True, for a CARBURATED car, nothing beats dyno tune. But a fuel injected car, a chip is great, some chips are exactly what your thinking, just plug in and HOPE it works, not hypertech, you plug into your computor on your car, download it to your computor at home, and you can change everythin from there, you can check your torque curves, peak HP, best fuel miledge etc. It works just like they do at a shop, only you dont pay the labor time, you do it yourself, thats the only difference with this one, its called the "thermo runner". one of only 2 on the market like that. but your right, dyno tune works well also.

A carburated car is worthless on a dyno, as the air outside will change the way you would have to tune it. It is not always hot or cold. People that have worked around carburators know this. A dyno tune is the best way to get a Ls1 or anything that is using a computer to adjust anything as you can actually see what is going on on the laptop.

well unregistered, you are way wrong. Dyno tunning is a great way to tune any performance motor wether it is injected or carburated. Dyno tunning a carburated motor is for the benifits of making sure you have the proper jet sizes and most optimal timming, the cold or hot weather has little influence on this. I also do not know many people that drive a classic in the winter, maybe you should learn what you are talking about before posting your thoughts.

I just dont get this "unregistered" guy, If we were in school, and had lockers, Id shove him in one! :D Meanwhile, theres bad76 giving him a wedge at the same time! :D

A dyno for a carburated car is not worth the money, You can do the same thing on the street, if you know what you are doing. I would only take a carburated car to a dyno to see what power it makes or have no idea on how to tune it. It just seems like you could spend your money somewhere else.

of corse you would, just like some of the other things you say, makes no sence.
