Hi. I just realized today that I really want a Fiero, and I always have. To me, its the perfect car.
I am fresh in college, don't have much money, and won't for a while. So, I must save and plot.

That is where you come in. Your budget is say 2, 3, 4 grand. What is your ideal fiero?
What year?
Auto or stick?
I'm thinking stick
Sunroof, gotta have that, what years/styles had sunroofs?

Other than that, I really don't know much about Fieros, what do I need to know in my search? Anything really cool that I should jump on if I find? What are the differences between the years/options/types/whateveryoucallthem, or aren't there really any?

Thank you soo much for reading and anything you post! Even you trolls. :)

Can't speak for others but I put 70K on my 84 and although Pontiac improved the handling in 88, I never had issues with the way it handled. As a daily driver, auto for me was the way to go. Always got near 30mpg, never had trouble with the 4cyl. I think sunroof was avail all years.

Getting a Fiero now the best years would be 1985-1987. The reason being is although 1988 had the suspension and brake upgrades, They only made just over 26000 and the unique parts for those changes can be difficult and expensive to find and modify.
I picked 1986 because I have had mine since May of 1986.

As for auto or stick, It is what you prefer.
As for sunroofs ALL (1984 thru 1988) Fiero's were designed to have a sunroof. The nice thing is if you buy a Fiero without a sunroof, You just need a roof panel, headliner, the latch, and the glass sunroof from another Fiero and you can swap it onto yours. The holes and mountings for the sunroof panels are already on the frame.

There are differences between the years.
1984 only 4-cyl available - special model was the 1984 Indy Pace Car

1985 V-6 was available - manual trans for 4-cyl goes from 4-spd to 5-spd - GT gets sleeker Aero body.

1986 GT gets fastback body, SE gets Aero body - Late 1986 V-6 gets 5-spd manual

1987 4-cylinder engine get DIS ignition system - base coupe bode gets rounded front and back bumpers. Only year Blue paint is available - T-Tops become factory option.

1988 Suspension and brakes redesigned - SE model goes away - Formula model takes its place. - Only year yellow paint is available

There are many other smaller differences as well. If you truely want to get a feel for difference's of you just want to know everything about Fiero's, Go to: http://www.fierofocus.com/store.html

This. I recently bought an 84 SE that needs tlc but runs fantastic. So far, the only part I've needed to replace was the alternator. I did put new brakes on it(calipers, rotors, pads) all the way around for personal reasons. getting 30+ highway with the Muncie 4sp.
