I have a 2004 Aztek 2WD. My problem started intermittantlu first and now is permanent. I found a way to release key from under steering column. In trying to diagnose I removed some fuses. Now the "Service Engine Soon" light comes on the same place the "Change Engine Oil" light comes on. Also noticed that a few times when first starting to move that it felt tlike brakes were stuck. Reading the owner's manual found something called shift lock. Sounds like my problem is related to the shift lock. Anyone have any ideas what the problem is. I've seen people on internet say broken wires in shifter, bad key release solenoid, possible bad body control module. I can also say that the gear shift light ism out, all radio lights are out, some lights on fam knob and temperature knobs are out. I used to be a able to hit side of radio and cabin control tower and lights would come on briefly. I also noticed after disconnecting some fuses the radio clock light came on but went back out. Thanks for any and all help. It is just shy of 320,00 miles.

You need to have the code scanned to determine why the "Service Engine Soon" light is on, stores such as Autozone do free scans.
You will have to disassemble the console to determine if the shift solenoid is getting power and working.
I assume you replaced the fuses and have checked that none of them are blown.

Thank you. I have a scan tool and there are no codes. This light is located in the same place that the "change engine oil" light is loacted. It is not the one higher up on instrument cluster. This located where other warning lights are located. Have not checked fuses. Saw something today that it could be related to the clock/radio fuse...which makes some snese since those lights are dark now. I am able to remove key buy manually by-passing the key release switch. Also saw it could be related to brake light switch. Also saw that the shift lock feature is two parts - one for park lock and other for key lock. Any ideas are appreciated.

Brake lights work fine. I am able to remove my key by pulling out a small metal piece under steering wheel for now. Not sure what is causing key to get stuck. According to manual it could be a shift lock problem or low battery. Battery is brand new so should not be a problem. Shift lock I am unsure about how to check to see if it is problem. The steering wheel will not lock. Ther gear shift clicks and will move out of Park with no problem. Thanks for your comments.
