"....., it's another."

Shifting my Rotomatic to Reverse directly from Park or Neutral comes with a thud! Direct selection from any of the forward gears is much, much smoother!

Car has 53k miles, clean fluid at the proper level, hot or cold and it has been inspected (at the least) by a professional in the past.

Am I doomed? Thanks, John

did you check for a broken engine or transmission mount?
what is the idle rpm?

I would inspect the Motor and trans mounts, as well as the U-joints before diving into the trans. (fingers crossed) But Roto Hydros do strange things when they go out. It has been 30 years sense I owned the last one. When they went I usually replaced them with a T-350 (originality was no an issue with me) but if it is a 64 or earlier block an adaptor plate will be required to bolt up a later trans.

Please let us know what you find.

I'll have my mechanic check the mounts. Idle RPM - 1000. Another mechanic task as well as repairing a tranny leak. Merci!

I'll have the mounts checked. This very day, the harshness includes a clank! Ill have the U-joints checked as well. Thanks!

why is 'chiefheap' responding to answers to a question posted by someone else, 'prdbrd'?

My guess is they are both working on the same car. One says their location is Powell Butte, Oregon which happens to be in central Oregon. The other is located in central Oregon. Either one is the mechanic and the other the owner, or they are the same person and need to see a psychiatrist. :D

"prdbrd" and "chief heap" are the same person. I apologize for any confusion.

The engine mounts and u-joints are okay. I added some Lucas Transmission Fix and things are much better.

Next move is to find her a good home.
