Hello, I have always trusted the online community for any car related issues so I felt this would again be a good time to reach out for some assistance. My father took his 2006 Pontiac Torrent to the dealership for a diagnostics check because the A.C. doesn't stay running at a cold temperature after 10 or so minutes of driving. The dealership wrote their notes on the paperwork and he declined their offer to complete the work (I usually can handle most repairs myself so figured I'd ask you guys before I begin working on it).

Long story short...I'm wondering if anyone knows whether or not I need to replace the wiring harness, the cooling fans or both based on what they are saying. Going by the dealership notes below it sounds like I just simply need to check the grounding wires to make sure they are secure and possibly replace one of the fans (I have not physically looked at my father's vehicle yet but will in the next day or two). Any help would be greatly appreciated as always!!! :-)

DEALERSHIP NOTES/COMMENTS:

"Customer wants A.C. system checked to see if low on freon, OK to evac and recharge, advise on Freon level please. Both cooling fan connectors have poor terminal tension causing both connector terminals to burn, right cooling fan does not work and left will fail. Left cooling fan only works on high speed, due to failed right cooling fan. A.C. system was about .6 lbs low on freon. Customer declined repairs. When left cooling fan fails A.C. will stop blowing cold when vehicle is at idle and engine will overheat."

my interpretation is you have corrosion at the connections causing high resistance and heat burning both connectors. You will have to apply power to both fans to see if they still work but it does state the right one has already failed and the left is suspect. There is no mention concerning grounding.

Thank you for the quick response. I will order a full fan assembly then since the cost of a motor and blade are about $90 and the entire assembly is only $130, figure it probably wouldn't hurt to replace both since I'll be pulling the entire thing out. I will check the male end connectors on both sides to see if maybe I can clean them up a bit before connecting back to the new fans. Was going to buy 2 new connectors but if I can save myself the $60 via rockauto I'd definitely be happy. Thanks again!
