Engine code on 1971 400 engine

Anyone who knows which engine workshop stamps engine code 6348? And what does it mean?

there is no master list of machine shops showing what numbers they stamp on a block.
The engine code is YX which in 1971 is a 400, manual transmission, 265 HP, 8.2 CR.

It could be a 71 400, but be careful ad Pontiac reused the 2 letter engine codes over the years, The YX code was used on 301, 389, 400, & 455 engines over the years.

Below is a list of the engine I know of that used the YX code. You can narrow it down by looking for a large cast number on top of the block near the distributor, get the block casting number and look for how many freeze plugs are on the side of the engine. Also later blocks have the displacement cast on both sides of the block.

I have no idea what the numbers stamped over the engine code are.

I know It's 1971 november build block. But I wonder who mark it 6848? And why? What is this?

If I had a machine shop and worked on an engine I would stamp it with something to indicate I worked on this block in case the owner comes back with a complaint and they switched blocks on me. Nobody is going to be able to answer your question as to the true origin of the over stamped number which is further complicated because it could have been done in the US or Europe. Since you have the engine apart you are in a position to measure everything to determine what has been done to the engine. In addition November 1971 would be a 1972 car.
