Bought a nice used set of honeycombs for my 70 Firebird. I searched for lug nuts online and some vendors sell lugs which they claim fit either style wheel. I bought a set of them and they seem to bind on the chamfered edge of the nut before the integral washer seats into the wheel. Are these lug nuts supposed to interchange? thanks

Doesn't the seat in the wheel have the standard taper that an open style lug nut would have?
The reason I'm asking is looking at Ames Performance they sell the same lug nut for Rally and Honeycombs and the nut does not have a washer only a base which matches the angle of the wheel seat.
Where did you buy the nuts and what is the part number?

Yes totally different Lug nuts for Honeycomb & Snowflake wheels. And yes melsg5 is correct your Honeycomb wheels use the same lug nuts as Pontiac Rally II wheels.

Okay, I looked and my lug nuts were bought from an eBay vendor. They are advertised as GM brand and the ad says snowflake only. I was faked out because I did see another vendor ad which claimed this style lug nut fit snowflake or honeycomb. If you look at the attached pic, my honeycomb wheel has no discernible chamfer in the lug nut opening. Maybe the chamfer angle is different than standard. Also, the wheel has indented circles around the lug nut holes. I think the original lug nuts were designed with integral washers which would seat in those indentations so as to keep the lug nuts from loosening. I would dearly love to see a close up pic of an original honeycomb lug nut if anyone could provide it. thanks

Is it just the angle of the picture or is the hole not centered in the indentation?
Not an expert on Honeycomb but were there two different types, one up to 76 and another 77 to 81. Is there a date code on your wheels?

The later "Snowflake" wheels 77-81 are not Honeycomb's they are an actual aluminum wheel. The earlier Honeycomb's are a Polycast wheel, meaning they are a steel wheel with a hard rubber like compound cast onto the front of the wheel to give the appearance of an alloy wheel. I only owned 1 car with them. a 1972 T/A, & I can not remember what lug nuts were used. Sorry. I remember them being the standard Rally II lug nuts, but I am probably wrong.

Looking at the vendor sites at the lug nuts they seem to show two different types. The latter type look like the one in the picture above. The earlier type look like the Rally II acorn style.
The wheel above looks like it should take the nut pictured but the hole looks offset in the picture.

Looking in the April 1983 Pontiac Parts Catalog that only covers through 1975 there are two 15x7 Honeycomb wheels The first one is part # 484425 listed for 71 to 73 A,G,F bodies and it says "paint". The second one is part# 497154 listed for 75 ( not sure what happened to 74 but they do show the 14" Honeycomb) A,G,F bodies. Strangely in the nut section of the book they only list the Rally type nuts, no mention of Honeycomb.

Must be the camera angle as holes are centered The guy that sold the wheels to me took them off of a 71 Formula.

Thanks for all the input. I must have been overthinking this. I will try some standard chrome acorn nuts
