I'm having a problem with finding a replacement fuel pump.
I've tried three different after market pumps.
The housing is just a little taller than the original.
It hits the alternator bracket and keep you from bolting it up to the block.
Other than grinding on the bracket and on the pump itself it will not bolt up.
I really don't want to mickey mouse things
Anyone else had this problem ?
I can't seem to find a pump that is just like the factory pump

You provided no year, it was used from 61 to 63, what year is yours?
It had multiple different carburetor set ups, which one do you have?
Exactly which manufacturer and part number have you tried so far so we dont duplicate effort.

It's a 63 La Mans
One that I still have is made by Airtex #40001
Another was Precision that I just eyeballed at O'reilly I don't remember the part #.
The other I don't remember I also eyeballed it.
They are only about 3/8 differences in the housing heights.
It's just enough that it won't bolt up.
There is already a notch in the alternator bracket from the factory.
I just don't think I should start grinding to make the new pump fit.
Also the bolt holes in the aftermarket ones are 5/16.
The factory pump are 3/8 mounting bolts.
It's crazy that something so simple is such a pain in the butt.

Carter makes a pump, M3643, and NAPA NNP B0139P, but have no idea if they fit any better.
You are dealing with a pump that has very little usage so having to make it fit should not come as a total surprise.

Yeah I know what you mean.
Just for grins I'll check NAPA.
The others all looked exactly the same.
If I strike out there I think I'll send to LA to have it rebuilt.
I live in Yuma, AZ so It should only take a few days.
I'd much rather not grind on anything.

I am a new owner of 1963 just a few days ago. If my pump went bad and they were problematic to find. I would just go with a electric pump. That is what I will do if that time should come. Good Luck
