1966 Lemans steering column

a few years ago I removed the steering column from my 1966 Lemans. For what ever reason, I cannot get the top of the steering column containing turn signal switch to lock on to the column itself. When I put everything back together, the top part moves when I use the turn signal. I'm thinking the column at the top is out of shape. Does anyone know where I can get another column? it is a floor shift 2 speed automatic. Any assistance would be appreciated

Did you look in the factory service manual to see if you forgot to install something, screw, etc.?

Unfortunately I have never seen that breakdown in any manual. I have a copy of the assembly manual but most of it is unreadable. All of the pictures I have seen show the turn signaling assembly but nothing shows how the top of the column locks into the bottom half. There are no screws to hold it.

I do have the service manual and it does not have the breakdown of the upper steering wheel cap. Yes it shows how the turn signal and horn components go together but not how the bell shaped housing attaches to the column shaft itself.

From what I can tell, the 67’s are different.

Yes 67's are a 1 year only column, 1st year with both a collapsible column & column mounted hazard light switch. Pictures would help, it has been 20+ years sense I had a 66 A-body upper column apart.

I think that all 64-66 A-Body columns are the same, just need to be from the correct optioned car, either a column shift automatic, or a floor shift manual or automatic. I would try Pontiac Heaven in AZ
