Door wont stay open/dash

I have a 2005 Pontiac Grand AM GT1. The drivers door will not stay open and i was wondering if anybody else has had the same issue and if so how do you fix it.

I was wondering also how one went about fixing the dash after it start curling up due to the hot weather.

Did you compare upper and lower hinges to the passenger side to see if something is broken or missing such as a spring.
You would need to find a replacement dash from a salvage yard.

Don't see a spring on either side. It is a 2 door.

Something is different if one side works and the other doesn't, look closely.

That appears to be the only part that would hold it open.

It looks like it is called a door "check" and is discontinued by GM per this reference Item #23 but it references R/H side so I do not know if the part number listed will work on the drivers side or not,

I searched the P/N and came up with this says it fits both sides and is the "new & improved" style. I would ask the seller if it fits both sides before buying though. Or search local parts stores that may have a better return policy

GM OEM part #19244699. 2001-2004 Alero. This part should fit 99-2005 models but many of 99-2000 models had smaller hole in the door and this part doesn't fit through. Also few 2001-2005 have a smaller hole in the door and this part doesn't fit through.
