Oil Metering Tube

What is an "Oil Metering Tube", and where is it located?
How about some background, what engine, what year, we did you find that terminology?

The Oil metering tube is a restrictor put in the main oil passage in the head, it cuts down the oil flow & pressure delivered to the OHC valve train. It is needed to prevent premature wear and proper operation of the hydrolic lash adjuster's and to prevent cam follower and camshaft wear. They are usually fine as they have to be driven out of a head as they are a press in fit.

Anouther thing to check on all 66 & most 67 OHC-6 engines is the alignment of the oil passage from the head to the block. They had a casting issue on some of the heads that missaligned the oil passage between the block & head, I have seen it off by as much as 1/2 the diameter of the passage.

you can PM me if you are interested in more info & links.

Great info Jeff...thanks, I'll pass it on. Is there someplace where I can download a portion of the manual relating to valve adjustment?

There is no valve adjustment, hydraulic. Below, hopefully is the complete chapter from the 1968 manual on this engine.

Te 68 & 69 manuals are OK, but the 67 Manual goes into more detail, I think it was an attempt to improve the bad dealership service on the engines in the prior year.
