I was wondering if it matters what side the vac advance is pointing? I no originally mine was on the driver side. My new one was installed with the vac advance pointing to the passenger side.

Thanks

Your new what, the vacuum can or the whole distributor? Is this a stock 1972 points distributor? A stock distributor has the can on the drivers side otherwise you couldn't open the window in the cap to adjust the points. Need some more information as to what was done or better a picture.

Removed the old points distributer and replaced with a HEI MSD billet distributor. I know before the vac can was pointing toward the driver firewall know it’s pointing to the passenger firewall.

Here’s a pic.

why wasn't it installed the same as the old one?

That what I was wondering the shop I took it to put it on that side and I didn’t realize it. Wondering if I need to change it back or does it matter?

Incredible! Do you have the vacuum line attached without a kink in the hose? Chevrolet's have it on the passenger side.

Yes vac line is connected no kink.

Well obviously it works but I would ask them why they did that since they saw the original was the opposite.

I’ll reach out. Seems to run fine thought it was weird also. Thanks for the input.

Did you check what they set the timing to. The timing may not be able to be advanced beyond a certain point without the vacuum unit hitting the firewall.
