Curious as to what people have done to breath a little more snot out of this engine. Not looking to re cam it. Just Carb , distributor, timing, exhaust etc.
 
If you already have a Quadrajet that's 750 CFM so you don't need a bigger or smaller carburetor.
Distributor wise you have HEI but a lazy advance curve. You need a spring kit to bring in total mechanical advance earlier. 36 degrees at 3k rpm.
For exhaust, long tube headers.
 
That is what I was thinking of doing. In Pennsylvania I can eliminate the cat legally as it will be registered as an antique. I wonder how much HP it will gain over the anemic 180 HP it has from the factory. More important to have a crisp throttle response. More of a cruiser than anything else.

Biggest improvement but pricey would be aftermarket aluminum higher compression heads.

It has 125,000 miles. At this point that would mean a rebuild. If necessary in the future that would be a consideration..
