It seems every 1st gen firebird I have ever seen whether it be an auto/ floor shift or manual has the steering column linkage under the hood including the one I just bought. Was this standard for these years or are they column to floor conversions?

the linkage is whats is called a backdrive linkage .. it drives the steering column collar and makes the backup lights and reverse safety switch work by turning the column when the shifter moves the linkage it was standard equipment in all Camaros /firebirds up until the 3rd gen cars 82-up
