Im in need of a car for commuting back and forth from school. I am really interested in a 1988 Pontiac Fiero. I found one that has about 213k on it. Everything is in working order and maintenance has been kept routinely. What else should I look at before purchasing it? Anything in particular for this Fiero? What is a MAJOR aspect that will either make or not make me purchase it? Just asking. Opinions please!

1) Well first thing is first, how much are they asking for it?
2) What Model/Engine is it?
3) fastback or Notchback?
4) How's the carfax? does it have any accidents?
5) What kind of condition is the oil in. that will tell you a lot about a car.
6) is it a stick or an automatic? If it's an automatic when was the last time that it was serviced?
7) If it's a stick, has the clutch been replaced?
8) What kind of condition is the paint in?
9) if it has T-Tops do they leak? leaking t-tops suck... I know... they really really suck... especially when your wearing pierre cardin and you don't realize that your suit jacket is wet till you get inside and your client is... NVM anyways

the big one is how much$?

As far as for the daily commuter thing. Please understand that these are mid-engine sports cars, they are NOT good daily drivers. If you are prepared for that then they can be a lot of fun. If you aren't then they can really suck big balls. Also sit in one. make sure you don't mind getting in and out of the car. I'm 6'1" and a big guy and I'm fine with it because I knew what to expect, especially after my MR2 MK2. You really need to understand that if you have to go somewhere you have to let the car warm up first. there is no just jumping in turning her over and driving off. YOU MUST LET IT WARM UP. So not good for emergencies. Also if you ever need to take anyone anywhere, it's one at a time. if you ever plan on taking the car on a trip, there's enough room for you and your luggage and that's about it. Two hours of driving a Fiero will hurt when you stand up. If it has been dropped, the two hours will hurt worse.

Don't let everything I'm telling you scare you though. If you understand this stuff it'll be a great ownership experience, if you don't get this stuff though, you'll probably end up hating the car and regreting your purchase.

Good Luck and welcome to the group!
