How big can I go?

I have a 2001 sunfire (Guppie) an I want to know what is the biggest engine size that I can put in the Guppie and have it bolt right up with out any modification needed?

you could but it's not worth the expense to gain a few horses, you would need engine, wire harness, computer, etc.

any 2000-2005 Jbody motors are bolt in interchange. you need engine trans (complete engine alt,stater, etc etc) engine wiring harness and computer, rad (depending on what motor u go with) upper rad hose, heater hoses, upper motor mount

now technically the "biggest" motor is the 2.4 which in your year would be in the GT. I wouldn't recommend this motor. Best bet is the 2.2 Ecotec found in all 03-05 Jbodys.

Now it all depends on how cheap u can get the parts, i know around hear i could have the hole swap for about 5-600$....few hours of install and your getting 30ish h/p. You will notice the difference. I take it u have a 2200, which although its a bullet proof motor its quite possibly the slowest thing on earth.

Now to step it up a bit, get a supercharger set up off a cobalt ss. (usually u can buy a complete kit off the net for about 1200$) and with proper tuning you'll be in the 200 whp rang, if ya know how to drive no problem runing mid 14sec quarter miles, break into the high 13's with a decent suspension and a set of slicks.

thats the upside to the eco, still has an expanding aftermarket, and imo is a much better/reliable motor than the 2.4 which is a dead platform

Well, thank you all for that info. I guess I really dont need a big engine, just want one. Doesnt everyone want more speed to drive faster will? I guess its better this way that it is not a easy fix with an engine swap. I have enough problems keeping my car at a minumin of 70 mph everywheere, even in city areas! An yes I hav a 2.2l 5 speed.
