Hey, I kinda need help.
Ummm 97 sunfire was running fine, then started to over heat so changed the thermostat, never fixed then changed the water pump.

Problem is that my rad never heats up and the coolant and hoses are cold, I still have heat and the hoses at back of engine are hot.

Any ideas/help?

try burping the coolant system. best to start with the engine cold, but open up the coolant resevoir with the car running, and on the lower rad hose, squeeze, and let go, squeeze and let go. this will force air out and coolant in. this generally has to be done everytime the coolant runs empty

before you changed the thermostat did you check if the radiator fan was working properly?

I will trying burping today, and I live in canada and its been like -30 last little bit so i figure fan wouldn't turn on to keep it cool.
Does the fan always run or just at a certain temp?

only at certain temperatures, I believe it kicks in at 210, and cuts off below 195

my fan doesnt work and even in the summer it doesnt over heat. if you have a sound cooling system, the fan wont make much of a difference. and i live in winnipeg... nuff said lol

Well burping system did work, temp is normal now even without fan running.
Still have to test with live wire if fan running but its all good now, Thanks alot.
