So I need to replace the back struts/springs so im going to go with the all in one kits and im wondering if this is a hard thing to do or not hard at all?

Basically remove tire, brake drum then old strut assembly and put in new strut assembly then brake drum ect?

Sorry for all these questions, im just trying to do as much work as I can by myself.

Oh '96' 2.2l manual FWD Sunfire.

Thanks.

do you know how to use a spring compressor?

Nope. Didn't think I needed to use one. The spring and strut is already put together.

OHHH can the old srut/spring assembly not be taken off in one shot or do I have to rip it all apart piece by piece to get it out?

From what I was told the old shit can be unbolted and removed and the new shit put in place then bolted and bob's yer uncle?

Interested for some feedback now...lol, thanks:)

1. open trunk and peel backtrim panel to expose the upper mounting shock mount.
2.remove the mount nut
3.loosen wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the car and support it on jack stands. remove the wheels.
4.support the trailing arm with a jack and remove the lower shock absorber mounting nut and bolt.
5.remove the two upper mounting bolts inside the wheel well.
6. remove the the shock and springs from the car.
7. if you have a complete unit for replacement then simply install . if not its very similiar to the front strut.
hope that helps.

you beat me to it! i had my haynes manual out and i was copying the text lmao

according to the book, you got everything that needs to be done for new ones. it speaks of marking bolt locations if your re-installing the old one, but he's not doing that lol

Quick question, the bolts/nuts at the top and bottom of the strut mount can be reused or new ones need to be used?

Im going to buy the complete all in one strut kits this weekend and im not sure if they come with new nuts/bolts:confused:

Man this is going to save me so much money:)

dont get too excited. it only saves money if you do it right and take your time with it.

You should be able to re-use the old ones if the new one doesnt come with new bolts but i bet you any money that the kit will come with new bolts too.
