Hey,

I found this really well kept 99 Pontiac Sunfire GT. Its a 4Cyl 2.4L. This will be my first time really looking to buy a car on my own and am a little scared I might not be getting the right stuff. My dad seems to think that there is some huge problem with the 2.4 in this car, all he could give me was "Your brothers Cav has the same engine and I've had to replace is 3 times"

Is there really something wrong with the engines put in this age window of cars? any Cronic problems that is an inevitable down the road?

I really like this Car and I would really like to buy it, I've driven it and I've never seen a car like this so well taken care of. Should I be worried?

does you brother beat the hell out of his cars? what exactly failed each time the engine had to be replaced? will the current owner let you have it checked by a professional mechanic before buying it? how many miles on the car? does the current owner have a previous service records you can see?

there is a known head gasket problem with these motors, but only if you beat the snot outta it... I have a 2000 sunfire gt with 242,xxx KM on it and it's still got its original head gasket..

just curios......does your brother EVER check his oil? and fluids,? AND DOES HE BEAT ON IT.... three motors hooooweeeee:confused:

another common thing that i`ve experienced is the water pump seals go quite often. had mine replaced twice in the past 3 years and will be redoing it here in the next couple weeks again.

If he's had his replaced 3 times then he shouldn't be driving.
