Hey what's up guys? My girlfriend has a 2000 Sunfire 2.2 auto trans. Anyway she has been getting bad fuel milage since she bought the car (24 mpg, my camaro gets 26), and just recently she started smelling gas inside the car. And its idling kinda rough when you come to a stop, but picks up before its about to die. I just gave it a fresh tune up about 3000 miles ago, although I didn't replace the coil packs. There's no dtcs either. Anyone have similar problems?

Actually 24 mpg is around what she should be getting, unless you're talking about highway. City is 22 mpg and highway is 30 mpg.

Did you check for codes using a scanner? Did you follow the fuel line from the tank to the fuel filter to the fuel rail looking for a leak? Did you have a rough idle before the tuneup? What exactly did you do when you peformed the tuneup?

Thanks for the fast replys guys. She said she's getting around 300 miles to a tank, so I'm assuming its all city miles. I was just comparing her 4 cylinder milage to my 6 banger milage. When I gave it a tune up I replaced the plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, oil change (that filter was real hard to get to), and 2 bottles of injector cleaner to a full tank. She just reported to me that it was running rough, so I don't think it did before. Yeah there were no dtcs, I checked earlier. I havnt been able to lift the car up yet to follow all the fuel lines.

The 2000 2.2L automatic has a 14.3 gallon tank, so 300 miles to a tank is somewhere around just under 21 mpg. So, she SHOULD be getting a few more mpg out of it.

I even get sucky mileage in my 96, it has a 15.2 gallon tank and I only get just above 21 mpg. Maybe a bad o2 sensor.
