I have a 1986 SE manual 4 speed, and it has issues with keeping the backup/reverse light on. Meaning, I can shift it into reverse; all the way over to the left and up... yada yada. As soon as I release the stick it will jump to the right about an inch and, no more reverse light. Anyone have any troubleshooting advice?

i have this same problem. i can not figure it out. i was actually about to post about this. :)

If you pull the console under the shifter off you will see the arm for the reverse gate and there is a white plastic switch under it.
Put the shifter into reverse and adjust the switch and or the arm to turn the lights on.

I did my best at adjusting the switch, but now the shift assembly is really soft. Have any ideas about fixing that?
