just got a 05 sunfire with 42,000 miles on it . i was giving everything a once over just to be safe before my wife started driving it and noticed the rear shoes where wearing weird .
the inner shoe (closest to the front of the car) on both sides of the car are totally worn on the bottom half of the shoe . the top half looks new and the outer shoe also looks new .
any idea what would cause them to wear like this ?

thanks ..

they were probaly not put in 100% correctly..or the wheel cylinder s are going out..I hate drums because they can be touchy..you might have to replace every part of the drums..it's just the best bet to make sure it's done right..get a haynes or chilton manual.it will tell you how to do it..

thank you for the reply .

the shoes look oem and doubt they have ever been changed due to the millage . i suspect the 1 pad that has half wear was because some1 drove with the ebrake on . but the fact that the other half of the shoe has no wear , and the opposite shoe has no wear leads me to believe that sense day 1 that this car rolled off the assembly line that the rear brakes did not work . this is exactly the same on both driver and passanger sides .

as far as getting a chilton manual , there is no need . these are the simplest drum brakes i have ever seen . there are only 2 springs on each side . a monkey could install these correct . (not to say its not good advice)

The last owner could have tried to Drift which don't really work on a front wheel drive..Or not enough grease to allow the pads to move smoothly..And almost anything can be done wrong, even when done by the manufacture..
