We have a 2007 Torrent, the temperature gauge runs somewhere in the 1/4-3/4
range. Is this normal? Also, I just noticed when the engine is off/key out, the gauge is not at zero, but right below 1/4

jphilli,
I would suggest that you contact your local dealership and have them look into this for you. They are in the best position to get this properly diagnosed for you. I would like you to keep me posted on the outcome of this issue. If you need help locating a dealership you can visit the link below. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.

Hi, I have the same. 07 Pontiac torrent and my temperature Guage started to go crazy, once it would work normally, another time it would be half way when vehicle is off and another time going all the way around smacking the fuel Guage needle.

I was told its the coolant temperature sensor by the dealer, so I got that replaced. Nice, $200 for replacement. Well it lasted about a week and we are back to square one.

Anyone got any solutions. I'm going to try the resent the other post above suggested. Anyone know which exact fuse it is? Location wise in the fuse box?

Any other suggestions are also welcome.

Well, we've just lived with this. Now however, the radiator fans have kept running right after I shut off the engine for about 5 minutes or so. The temp gauge starts off at halfway as soon as the engine is started, and goes up from there, usually pegging. Tonight my wife got the "idle engine, overheating" display, and it appears that the thermostat isn't opening. I'm going to replace both the thermostat and temp sender in the morning.
Anyone run into problems replacing either?

This could be a problem with the circuit board on the IP itself, or the BCM. Most GM gauges peg at start (initializing)and then go to the correct readings. After the engine is shut off, the temp gauge will usually go to mid-scale after a minute or two.

Here is a link to the owners manual for the Torrent. https://assets.gm.com/manuals/pontiac/2009_pontiac_torrent_owners.pdf

The fuses you want to look at are in the interior fuse panel on the passenger side of the console. Check fuse #18 (instrument cluster), and fuse #20 Body Control Module (BCM). Make sure the blades of the fuses don't look corroded or oxidized, or just replace them and see if it makes any difference.

Turned out to b a bad thermostat for the fan/overheat problem. If I pull the fuse for the cluster and replace it, the gauge goes back to normal.
