Van vibrates when accelerating, especially at high speeds

This just started today when I was driving on the highway for a short bit. Driving at 100-110km/h, I can feel a lot of vibration throughout the vehicle, including the steering wheel. Any idea what could cause this?

does the vibration get progressively worse as you speed up? If so, it could be an imbalance in your tires. Also if there is a brake caliper stuck as you go faster it cause the rotor to heat up and pulsate.

The vibration does get worse as I speed up. Was thinking of calling to schedule a rebalance as I have had a previous somewhat rough drive at high speeds with the weighting being misaligned.

I noticed you said it does this when you accelerate. Does it let up if you stop accelerating?

Tranny could be the source of all problems.

I just got back from a shop this morning that I having the tie rods, CV joints, and ball joints to see if that is the source.

However, when they had it on the hoist and ran it, the shaking came directly from the tranny itself. I'm starting to hear an intermittent noise that is similar to a wheel bearing, but has a slightly different pitch (which possibly howled louder than a wheel bearing at highway speed since I drove on a loud wheel bearing for four hours last summer). The guys at the shop did mention the noise and vibration does not happen in neutral. Also talked to a guy at a tranny shop as well and he mentioned that it's possible for stalling to occur due to the tranny.

In short, I have to start shopping for another vehicle by the looks of things since it's likely on it's last legs and doing savaging soon...

Just got some new info from an acquaintance about a possibility of the mount joints for the tranny possibly giving out (plus a few other things like motor mounts or ball/universal joints).

Had my wheels rebalanced on Tuesday and the front ones were 1.25 + 0.75 off. Vibration occurs at around 2000RPM and more focused on feet.

On Thursday, took my vehicle into a shop and they found the axle (CV joints) were worn down on the driver's side, with the passenger side probably not far off. Got the driver's side done and the vibrations are gone for now.

Still looking around for a 2004 or 2005 Montana currently.

you keep pumping money in that thing you"ll have a new van

Technically I have since I only paid only about 2600 for the van at an auto auction three years ago. My repairs over that time probably now exceed 3000, with over 2000 of that in the past six months. Still looking around for a 2004 or 2005 non-SV6 version so I can retain my 15 inch Nokians (which still have 10/12 left).

I have this shaking too. The problem is I have worn tires that are imbalanced and also out of alignment, and I also have the ABS/TCS light on. I think my wheel bearings may be the problem, but I still need to get the code for the ABS/TCS issue. I am hoping once I replace the wheel bearings and tires, my high speed vibration goes away.

We did have tranny troubles that requires the PCS to be replaced, but this issue seemed to come up as soon as we replaced our winter tires with these worn down all seasons. The vibration is bad at about 110 km/h and causes shaking right into the steering wheel.

Worn wheel bearings will affect ABS light before it makes considerable noise. You have to replace the whole hub assembly (GM cars?), I have 250K miles and still original CV joints but struts were long overdue and what a difference. Since it was my wife’s Primary vehicle I would drive it rarely and then would ask myself how long she was driving like that.

Have had a steady vibration at around 100/kmh in the steering wheel. About 6 months ago, was in a shop for an oil change and found just a tiny bit of movement in the right front hub bearing. Replaced the bearing last week and the vibration is gone. Had this before with GM vehicles... only takes the slightest play in the bearing to cause an irritating shimmy in the front end. It feels exactly light a tire imbalance.....
