Hi i am replacing my head gaskets on my 2000 grand am gt. After getting the heads off and cleaning them i went about checking them for warpage. I used a 3ft level and a piece of paper. I checked corner to corner and vertical and horizonal on the head. The piece of paper went under the level but barely not all the way. I was wondering if there is a tolerance that u can have that the gasket will fill or should i just have them redone? I am trying to do this as cheap as possible. Any advice will help thanks

I'm not sure what the tolerance for warpage is, but as much as the gaskets cost to do this repair, and the time you have to put into it, I'd take them to a machine shop and have them check them out. The cost to have them checked, and even machined if necessary, is less than having to redo all your work if they leak after the repair. Just my $.02, and YMMV.

yeah i priced everything and the gasket set is 151 bucks and to have my heads done is 190 bucks around here. I was hoping i could just put new gaskets on it and call it a day. The old head gaskets was rusted threw where the water jackets are

i took my heads to a machine shop they said they was .090 off. Had them redone and only charged me 90 bucks for the pair. this is actually turning out to be pretty cheap thank god lol
