Being new to the Fiero & in the UK, Can anybody tell me why the speedo in the 2.8 SE I've just aquired only reads upto 80 mph, & has no KMPH on it I have also a scrap 2.8 SE aswell & the speedo is the same.
Seems a little low on top MPH for a car that I assume can well exceed that. ???

That was the normal speedo for all standard and SE model Fieros.
All GT and Formula Fieros were equipped with 120MPH speedos with KPH inset. Can usually find one on Ebay.

Thanks for that, you would have thought one would be on ebay but no, plenty of the lesser ones, will have to keep looking.
Cannot understand why they fitted an 80mph max speedo, even our old Mini's said more.....Strange

The only Fiero's that came with the 120mph and kph were the ones with V-6's standard. The SE came standard with a 4-cyl so it got the same speedo as the all 4-cyl Fieros.

?? My '86 SE V6 4spd came with a 80 mph speedo.

Yes that is correct. The SE did NOT come standard with a V-6. The V-6 was an option on the SE's. The GT's and Formula are the only models that came with a V-6 as a standard engine. Since the standards engine was a 4-cyl on the SE, The speedo was the 80mph. Getting the optional V-6 did not change the speedo on a SE.

How strange, I see the Firebird (some) also has an 80mph speedo, what a droop.

welcome to the time period when the government thought putting a speedometer that only went to 80-85 mph would slow people down.

Yes the 1982 thru 1986 Firebirds/Camaros had 4-cyl engines as a standard engine on the base model. The SE had a V-6 and the Tans Am had a V-8. The early 1980's were more about saving gas than performance. Many cars that are considered performance or sport cars came with a 4-cyl as the base engine. Firebirds, Camaros, Mustangs, etc.
