2005 Sunfire auto has shifting problems

My 2005 Sunfire (79,000 miles) Seems to have problems with shifting. It's auto trans, but when I turn left, it will rev for a second going nowhere, then pull forward hard. It's like the gear shifting is delayed or something. Somewhat similar is if it's cold, and I don't let it warm up, it basically won't go anywhere. I'll hit 3000 RPM's and it'll go 5 mph until it's warm. What kind of issue could this be?

It also makes a strange noise when it does pull, and when I brake, it usually feels like I'm rolling over a road with dips in it, or like I'm driving elliptical wheels. Not entirely sure how to describe it.

Does it have a rough idle or increased fuel consumption?
 
It's a closed transmission, so how would I check the level?
And the idle isn't terribly rough, but it isn't too smooth either. Still gets over 30 mpg highway

It's not a closed tranmission. You put it on a lift and remove the plug on the side of the case. With a warm transmission the fluid level should be even with the hole in the case.

Could you explain how to do that in a more specific way to someone with no resources such as a lift and has never checked the transmission of his Sunfire, therefore does not know about a case or plug? I have always been under the assumption that I have a closed transmission system and therefore the only way to check it is to have it serviced
 
I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE ON MY 2k G/AM AND WAS LOOKING FOR INSTRUCTIONS TO CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL. I'LL TRY IT THIS WKD.

Yeah, I'll take a look under the car if I can next weekend, but I'm not so sure that link applies to mine
 
I checked my fluid level by pulling the plug out and it was low. I finally stopped adding around 2+ quarts(I added it slowly 10 oz. at the time). it's amazing it would even pull.
My symptoms were exactly the same as the Sunfire. I used the link provided to find the plug. I took some pictures of mine but they're too large to attach.
Dranixger- you should check that fluid level asap.

You can easily resize them using Microsoft Paint, every Windows computer comes with that program. Or upload them to tinypic.com or photobucket.com and just post the link to the pics on here.

Yes it applies to your car. Here is a description on how to do it from another website...

"There is no dip stick on the transmission any longer.
You will have to go under the car to check. You may want to go to your local instant oil change and have them check the level.
If you feel you want to check it, here is a description of the location and process.

Make certain the vehicle remains level while checking the fluid.
Located just above the top sealing flange of the transmission oil pan you will find a threaded plug. Remove the plug and see if transmission fluid drips out of the hole. If so, the fluid level is correct. If not, remove the red fill cap on top of the transmission, driver side. Add fluid to the transmission until fluid dribbles out of hole.
Replace and tighten the plug."
