last july I bought my daughter a 99 GA 2.4. I took care in cleaning it out, changing plugs etc, brake job, etc. it's doing ok.

We live in Western Washington where it, of course, rains alot but Recently I opened the trunk and noticed the carpet soaked... (probably the deck lid seal leaking).

I picked up the spare tire cover and low and behold the entire well was filled with water.

Then I notice that someone had bondo'd the drain holes closed... very weird.

still working on drying out the trunk / back seat area.

So I'm asking...

why would someone BONDO the spare tire well drain holes closed?

they should have rubber plugs. A properly sealing trunk lid would not require holes in the well.

oh I see now that my question was confusing.. sorry about that.

~the drain plugs on this model are metal and fully installed correctly.~ the person had bondo'd over the plugs totally sealing the well. making it a essentially a potential bath tub.

my question was ~ why would someone bondo over the fully installed drain plugs?

no logical reason I can think of
