07 Torrent License Plate Lights Problem

My wife has a 2007 Torrent with about 61k miles on it...I was following her one day at night and see her license plate light was out...so we went to the store, got the bulb it needed and I was going to change it out...well got the screw driver, lifted the hatch, the screws were rusted. They were rusted so bad, I couldn't get them to move. Is my only option to drill them out and replace them that way? I have a craftsman screw remover, not sure if that would work?
Any suggestions would be great!

You can try soaking them with rust penetrant and leaving them for 24 hours. If that doesnt work try your screw remover and than the drill as a last resort.

Thanks! Do you know the screw size? Wondering if I can go to the home improvement store and get new stainless steel ones? All the license plate lights are rusted, so my have trouble with all of them.
 
Sorry cannt help you on the size and www.gmpartsdirect.com lists it as part of the handle assembly.

I was able to get the screws off and get the bulb replaced...I am going to go buy some stainless screws and replace the license plate screws with stainless while I am at it! :)

For future reference, I used Stainless Steel Sheet Metal #10, 1/2" screws...fit perfectly. Pack of 12 from my local Menards was $1.59...so pretty cheap fix. Replaced both lights since I was at it. Thanks for all of your suggestions! :)

How did you get them off? I am in the same boat for the lift gate switch and want to do the same
