I have a 2000 Montana with automatic level control. It also has the air inflator in the left rear of the van. The automatic level control has stopped working. The inflator still works. Mine is a 2000 so it is before they added the diagnostic trouble codes.

I have moved the arm on the sensor manually with nothing happening. I've also removed the sensor from the crossbar, with intentions of testing accross its connections as the arm is moved, but couldn't get any results. (It's open accross all terminals in all positions of the arm.

The connector that the sensor connects to has 5 wires. 4 of them are 12volt and 1 is ground. I can ground one of the wires to get the compressor to run and air up the shocks.

So do you think the sensor is bad? Is there a way to test it while disconnected or do I need to supply 12volts to it to test it?

Thanks

A timely post cause I have been messing with mine for last few months. So if your saying the inflator works that means that the compressor is good and putting out compressed air. I would say it is the level sensor. Do some searching cause out there is a wiring diagram for the level sensor. If I come across it I will post it. Also the is a online used car part place i use alot its call " car-part.com"

I was able to ground one of the wires to get the compressor to come on and inflate the shocks. I tried to ground the wire that would let air out of the shocks, but nothing happened that I could hear or see.

I found the wiring diagram for my Montana. I'm thinking The sensor needs power and ground before I can test it. Trying to attach the wiring diagram.

I hooked up 12volts and ground to the appropriate wires on the sensor. Then I checked for continuity between the compressor on wire and ground and got nothing. I'm thinking it may be the sensor. Would love to be able to run this test on a known good sensor, or plug in a good sensor to my van to see if it works.

Yea that would be a good test, u know of any salvage yards? Should be maybe $10-$20?

I haven't found anything yet...
