I just got my '95 FIREBIRD back from the paint & detailing shop yesterday, after seven weeks!

A silly lady backed up an Infinity SUV into my front fascia about three months ago, luckily I was within sight (and running distance) to stop her before she did serious damage and to make sure she covered the repair bills.

Fortunately it was just peeled paint in the center of the FIREBIRD's beak.
Yet as we are nearing the car's twentieth anniversay as my thrustworthy ride I decided to bite the bullet and paint the whole car.

My concern was not so much the price for the work but to get a superior quality job and above all, to avoid the eternal issue with taking your car to any repair or service shop: you get one thing fixed and they spoil another one.

So the shop's technicians disassembled, mirrors, trim from the doors front and rear fascia, turning lights and rear stop/signal lights, headlight covers, etc.

They put everything back in place, properly aligned too yet four days before delivery (when they were just cleaning, buffing and detailing) I've got a call : the dome lamp and the mirror courtesy lamps were on continuously as they were working on the car and were draining the battery. They had to connect a battery charger.

I went over and disconnected the switch for the dome lamp (in the trunk) and the connector behind the mirror.

Now, I drove the car home reconnected both courtesy lamps (mirrors and dome) and discovered they DO NOT TURN OFF when I close the doors and rear hatch. :(

My guess is that they must have broken a wire or severed a connection and then reconnected the wire wrong. I do not want to have to go and disassemble every electrical related part they took apart again by myself so I decide to ask if anyone in the forum has any idea of which set of wires could be causing this malfunction.

Your advice is well appreciated.

this question maybe too obvious but are you sure the thumb wheel that controls the dash brightness hasnt been turned all the way up turning on the interior lights continuously?

An eagle eye for details!

No question is too obvious ever.

You were correct of course. ;)

I also got the same advice from "NavyVet" who is a moderator at CAMARO ZONE forum where I also posted about this trouble.

I totally overlooked this possibility. The only thing I can say in my defense is that I have used this feature so rarely I completely forgot about it.

I truly appreciate both your very polite advice and the time you took to send it. Thank you. :D

All the best and safe driving,

you would have thought a shop that constantly works with cars would have looked at that first thing

I guess its a matter of attention

You're right.

In the firt place I fail to see at all theis need to operate the dimmer switch to that position.

Then, given the fact that these cars (4th Gen F Bodies) were an expensive import and there were at any time less than twenty examples of each brand (PONTIAC or CHEVROLET) in all the country any person servicing one of these cars must be attentive to their work since its unlikely they can reach someone with experience/knowledge of that model if they goof off.

This doubles when you take into account the age of the car. Although mine does not looks its age, any reasonable shop guy should realize he/she does not see these models very often.

Again I thank you for your timely and accurate advice.

All the best,

Import? Where are you?

Import? Where are you?

I'm in Panama City, Republic of Panama, Central America!!

Only place in the world you can drive between Pacific and Atlantic Ocean shores in an hour (or less if you have the machinery).

Best regards,
