I recently purchased a hand pump fluid extractor similar to a Mityvac for oil changes on my 2008 Torrent. The videos I've seen on YouTube make it look pretty simple to extract the oil out of the dipstick instead of crawling under the vehicle to drain the oil from the pan.

However, when I inserted the tube from the pump into the dipstick, it wouldn't go down to the oil pan because of the angle of the dipstick tube.

Has anyone ever tried using a fluid extractor and been successful with it to extract the oil from the pan?

i can not imagine how that would drain all the oil out of the pan.

I have used one for the transmission oil but like you I have the same problem with the engine oil dipstick. My brother has a Jetta and he has no problem with the oil extractor, and with his car the oil filter is not under the engine. You can try together a smaller diameter tube, and see if it will go down more easily

so you removed the old transmission fluid and left the dirty filter in the transmission?

Oil extractor

I haven't touched the Torrent yet but I have 2 other GM cars and they don't have a drain plug for the transmission fluid, and if you pull the pan off without removing the fluid first it's almost impossible not to make a big mess. Once the fluid is gone, just a piece of cardboard under a plastic tub and you can change the filter and O rings without getting chewed out for all the oil on the garage floor.
Is there a filter kit for the Torrent, oh, there is no dipstick for the transmission, my wife will blow a gasket, if I get transmission fluid all over.

so you removed the old transmission fluid and left the dirty filter in the transmission?

I wonder if can use my oil extractor to remove the transmission fluid, there is about 10' of tube. I could raise the car, remove the inspection plug and insert the tube and drain the fluid then open it up and change the gaskets and filter. Then to refill it I could use my rotary pump to add the 4.5 litres of new fluid.
Would that be less of a mess
