Hello,

Just noticed there is no overflow tank for the radiator on the 72 Catalina. It has the 350. Where should it be? Looks like someone capped the outlet by the top of the radiator by the fill. Where does it get mounted and connected? Any suggestions where I can get one?

Thanks!
Kevin

Currently there is a 12 - 15lbs safety pressure cap with the pressure release valve. Should I replace it with a non-sealed cap? It seems the radiator is a few inches low every time I check it. Is this due to not using an overflow tank?

Any suggestions on where to get parts from? I have had Buicks (68 LeSabre, 62 Skylark convertible, 55 Super) for a while and there is a place called CARS that specializes in classic/antique parts for Buicks. They have almost everything and have a comprehensive online and paper catalog. Is there any place like that for Pontiacs?

Thanks!
Kevin

The factory in 1972 used no bottle and used a 15lb cap with no rubber seal around the inside outer edge. This system would cause the coolant level to be a few inches below the neck when cold, you should see an indentation on the radiator approximating the cold full level. The radiator neck had a rubber hose coming off of it running down the side of the radiator for overflow.
If you want to update to 1973, you need the plastic bottle and a 15lb cap with a rubber seal around the outer edge. Using this system when cold the coolant will totally fill the neck.
For Pontiac parts you can try www.amesperf.com www.performanceyears.com www.frankspontiacparts.com among others

Hello again! I picked up an overflow tank from pep boys and as much room that there is under the hood, there does not seem to be a good place to out it. Any suggestions? I am looking for a tank for a 73 but have not found one yet.

Thanks!
Kevin
