I have A ‘65 Bonneville with the first edition of the floating , single caliper brakes. I did this conversion by taking the entire spindle assembly from a ‘69 bonneville. I did this in 1973 and I have put over 200K miles on the car using this design. I cant even begin to tell you what a tremendous advantage I have experienced.
Rotors are now hard to find. I found a site that carries rotors for ‘69 through ‘72 and they say for Grand Prix.
Correct me if I am wrong but the front suspension design is the same for Grand Prix / Bonneville and Catalina?
They are all the full size models. The geometry did not even change from ‘65 to ‘69 Bonevilles
However, the rotors are different for each year from ‘69 through ‘72. I am curious as to what is the difference between each rotor.
I suspect that the only difference is that the spindles are different and the way that the calipers are designed. In other words, I could change the ‘69 design to ‘72 by swapping the entire spindle assembly just like I did to change ‘65 drums to ‘69 discs.
I ask this because the newer parts seem easier to find.
So is swapping the entire spindle assembly from a ‘72 to a ‘69 possible?
PS
I refer “Spindle” as what attaches to the upper A- frame and the lower A-Frame. The wheel axle is attached to this.
Thanks
