I have a 2001 grand am with the 2.4L twin cam motor. It is misfiring. Live data on the scanner is showing majority on cylinder 1 but #2 is also misfiring. Plugs look fine. Since this motor has 2 coil packs, 1 pack fires cylinder1 and 4, the other pack fires cylinder 2 and 3. I'm thinking it might be a shorted ignition housing since there is carbon markings on the tips and a crack. anyone have this motor and dealt with this?

When you say ignition housing do you mean the Ignition Control Module?

The plastic housing that holds the coil packs and ignition module

I would replace it and see if you can get the ICM tested at a parts store.

Cylinder 2 plug was broken. Replaced plugs in cylinder 1 and 2. Also replaced the housing pictured above. It’s running but there is still a slight misfire on cylinder 1. Very small misfire. Seems to disappear at high rpm’s. Gapped plugs at .050. I would think if it’s a be coil pack it would also misfire on cylinder 4. So im
Not sure where to go from

Why didnt you replace all plugs?
How are you determining there is a misfire, a code?
You didnt have the ICM tested?
My scanner. Using the misfire function. I didn’t replace all plugs cause cylinders 3 and 4 weren’t misfiring. I just swapped the coil packs around and the misfire went from cylinder 1 to cylinder 3 so that’s a faulty coil pack
