01 montana no gears?

I started my van one day and sounding like the power steering was squeeling thought nothing of it and drove maybe 80 yards and then nothing. Revving up like it was neutral. So i start it and then drive works for a little while. If i start it and let it idle for 30 seconds it will have no gears but if i start it and put it in gear right away it works. Any idea?
 
Oh boy, don't sound good. Does the shifter feel like its going into drive and not neutral, do you think the linkage is off? How many miles,tranny fluid changed lately,what color is the fluid? I am no expert but could the tranny filter be plugged up and not letting the fluid circulate properly?
 
The linkage works I seen it moving. When i put it in gear the idle goes up a little bit kind of like it wants to go into gear but doesnt.

Fluid and filter was changed recently and is red.

I guess I could change the filter and fluid myself and pray it works. Maybe wrong fluid when it was changed? Ran fine before this happened though.

you could have a failed shift solenoid or internal damage in the tran. If the fluid and filter are fresh you could only check if the filter for some reason was improperly installed.
 
Melsg would the shift solenoid set a code?

Yes I will check if the old o ring came out.
 
not as far as the check engine light/ecm is concerned.
