'01 sunfire transmission slip

01 2.2l automatic 4dr coupe.
130k miles.
about 6k miles ago the transmission started shifting funny. It would run up to 4k-5k rpms then shift. I thought it was my driving but the problem persisted. Now, the RPMs shoot up to 4+ in first gear then it shifts to 3rd. it's as though i have no second gear. I've heard everything from changing my tranny fluid, filter, replace transmission ect. Has any one encountered this problem, what were your fixes?

1. Have you checked the transmission fluid level?
2. If the level is good and you have not changed the filter and fluid in the last 50,000 miles replace the fluid and filter, do not flush the transmission.
3. If filter and fluid change do not correct the problem than you have an internal transmission issue which has to diagnosed by a transmission shop.

Thank you for your reply. I have not done the trans fluids and filter. I just checked it and it looked grey not red. I am going to swap the fluids this weekend. Thank you for the feedback. Here's to hoping the problem is just maintenance.
