02 Sunfire 2.2 No start (Fuel Pump?)

Daughters car (02 Sunfire 2.2 ohv 168k miles) just died yesterday at a stop light. Towed it home, thinking it may be the Pump. Because it cranks but does not start. I know i have to drop the tank, but before I do.. is there anything i need to know to test before I dig into this? As it may be something easier.

What has been done so far:

1) Crank sensor replaced
2) ALL Fuses checked and are good.
3) Replaced the Pump Relay with the AC relay - still no start.

* Do I have to relieve fuel pressure ( i did on my jeep when replacing the Fuel pressure regulator)?

* If so - how to do it?

* I heard you can pull a couple plug wires off one of the coil packs and crank to see if it arcs to test for spark.. is that correct?

Did you run a pressure test to confirm it's the pump? Do you hear the pump when you turn the key to the run position? Have you checked for power at the pump when you turn the key to the run position? Look for a shrader valve on the engine fuel lines for the pressure. As you stated check for spark.
 
I have not pressure checked the pump (not sure how). I think I hear it run.. but it is faint and that is while I am under the car while the wife turns the key to the on position. I do not hear it from inside the cab (like i do on other vehicles). Should I be able to? How do I check for power AT the pump? Can you tell me about where the schrader valve is and what the pressure should be? I assume I check the pressure while the key is in the on position? Again.. thanks for the help
 
Normally with windows closed you should hear the hum of the pump for a few seconds. You have to access the pump connector and use a voltmeter. The valve should be obvious on the fuel rail but some vehicles do not have them and you use an adaptor at the regulator to get a reading. Dont have the exact PSI but 35 to 40 should be within range.

Thanks... I do have spark as there is an arc between the post on the coil pack. I really dont hear a humm when I turn the key so I check the pressure if I can find a valve on the rail, and post back later. How do i relieve fuel pressure? Is is just removing the relay and cranking it. That is similar to my jeep.
 
You can try that but you may not have any pressure
 
This tank is 3/4 full...:(. Any tips on how to siphon the fuel?
 
clear rubber hose and a large container, suck on the hose till you see flow and the gas will come out by itself.

Thanks.. I should have been more specific - can I siphon straight from the fuel inlet? Or do i have to get underneath it and yank a hose off and do it from there. Was not sure if the fuel inlet had a screen on it that would not allow a hose to be run down to the tank.

UPDATE: there must be a screen on the inlet hose to the tank as my siphon pump hose stops at a certain point.

All done. New Crank Sensor, Fuel Filter, Delphi Fuel pump. Car is running. Thanks for the help here. I used this video as well, only thing i had to do was drill out the button that fastened the heat shield to the tank strap. Of course after the tank was dropped i took out the old pump and siphoned the fuel out to make it easier to get back in the car.
