02 sunfire pioneer radio

I have a 02 sunfire, that I've been looking to get a radio in. It currently does not have one, it has the stock harness. I have a pioneer Deh-x56hd that I want to put in it. I don't want to deal with a new wiring harness or have to buy anything extra, I went to best buy and they said I needed some harness and an adapter that would cost me total $175. I have the wiring from the pioneer, could I just wire that straight to the stock one. The stock harness has 13 wires and the pioneer has 12. If I can, can someone tell me how to wire it up?

Unless you're going to be splicing into the stock harness (not recommended) you'll need an adapter: found here on amazon $37

Other then that, it's connecting the wires. The radio should have a diagram that tells what each wire goes to. They usually match up anyway

What problems could splicing them possibly present. I've got a good base knowledge of wiring just not to the extent of radio wiring. If it was something mechanical like the engine, or trans I could do it with my eyes closed. (Figuratively anyways)

The main issue of splicing directly into the harness is that it's a PITA later if you want to upgrade your radio OR sell the car and get a used radio from the junkyard. It's also a pretty messy way to do if you ever want to take the radio out for (XYZ reasons) If you ever plan to run new wire.

Other than that, no issues if you can splice well enough. again that adapter is pretty cheap but it's up to you. Best buy has a pretty high mark-up as you can see.

You'll have to see which wire won't get use from your car to your adapter. I usually don't care too much to even wire the orange wire from the radio which is usually the illumination one.

Do you plan on other aftermarket upgrades? Ie amp/subs

Reasons to buy an adapter harness.
1. You wont incorrectly connect a wire.
2. A year from now a bad splice isn't going to open up and short out your wiring harness.

Whatever you do, disconnect the car battery before starting.
