just wanted to pick your brain on here, the last day or so every time I would shut off the van it would smell worse than a rotten egg.im getting codes 481,332,741. any ideas
 
From what I've seen/heard rotten egg smell will almost definitely be left overs burning in your cat, can be caused by anything from misfires to a bad o2 sensor or even the cat itself.

Given the codes 332 seems to be the most relevant being a knock sensor code, could indicate the former which can be caused by (just to name a few) incorrect octane levels in fuel, additives in fuel, bad plugs, plug wires, ignition coil, just a bad knock sensor, or even a bad ECM.

Did you fill up recently by chance? (hoping for the best :))
 
you also have an issue with the engine cooling fans and the lockup on the transmission converter.
 
I actually have to fill up about 4 times a week unfortunately.its always at the same place and theres no ethanol in the fuel,ive always burnt regular fuel but this is the first time this happened, the tranny converter is that something you have to pull transmission for?

I found out the smell was the transmission going, it started reving out today so I pulled the dip stick for the tranny and it really stunk.is it a big job to change the transmission
 
you could try changing the filter and the fluid first but it may not have any affect if the transmission is burnt out. Not sure what you mean by a "big job", are you doing it or a shop is doing it ? Rebuilding the old one or getting a used one that is already rebuilt or a used one straight from a junkyard ? You will have to shop around for prices in your area.
 
Ive never taken a tranny out of a van.cant afford to get a shop to do it.not sure how it comes out

is there a difference it the transmissions?apparently theres 2 types for my van.is there a way to tell by the vin number
 
finally got my van fixed, had to change transmission and now it works good. still getting code 405,481 and 332, not sure where to go from here to get rid of these codes though, any ideas?
