'06 Torrent struggles to start sometimes

Anyone else having this problem. You start your Torrent, it turns but doesn't actually start up. It may do it 1-2 more times but will finally start...or sometimes it just sounds like it barely starts.

There was something in the manual about power saving or something...one of the gauge lights comes on when it happens. Not in front of Torrent now to describe it but it is in the owners manual.
 
how many miles on it?
 
Well i'm up to 133,000 but this started back maybe around 80,000 or so... but I just googled and read about a ton of people having the problem...and then a lot with the keys getting stuck in the ignition! Hopefully that doesn't happen to me but I don't plan on having the Torrent for that much longer..maybe a year at the most.

I don't own or work on torrents so take my info as a grain of salt

From what I know about a few of the newer pontiacs, they are having issues with the actual ignition relay and the tumblers. From what I would guess for you to look into would be two seperate issues. now since your key isn't gettting stuck I'm assuming that if this is the case you aren't having that half of the issue, you are only having the relay juice issue. The relay is not transferring enough power from everything I've read. It said that one of the fuses that they used from the factory was too weak to begin with but it wasn't happening enough for them to turn it into a recall, especially during this down time of theres. If this is the case from everything I saw it could be as simple as replacing the old relay fuse with a slightly bigger fuse. But again, as a grain of salt.
 
I like the simplicty of the just changing a fuse angle better..lol.

Well the manual says something about "reduced power" if you see the one light come on. I just know if I take it in I'll hear "we weren't able to reproduce the issue" and there goes 5 hours wasted sitting at the Pontiac dealership.

I'll do some more research...just that the Torrent isn't a popular vehicle so info is limited.
 
Try cleaning your throtle body every time you change your oil or when ever you start having this problem. Mine stop doing it if I clean the throtle body every oil change. It should be a recall.
 
I just answered this in another thread. Here's what I said:

This is a common problem with the Torrents. I believe it is caused by a warped throttle body. Dirt might also play into it. I have a 2006 also and I also have the same problem. It's relatively easy to work around until it can be repaired.

When starting the car, and if it is giving you fits, stop cranking, slightly open the throttle (don't floor it) and start the car. It starts up every time for me. Flooring it is bad because the engine has not had a chance to get oil through all of its passages before revving up under full power.

This is on my list of things to fix (love those warranties).

I had the same prob with my 06 Torrent for a whole stright... I had it in and out of many dealers and they would say it didnt do it for them so as far as there concerned its in working order. But finnally after a whole yr of me calling and complaining the found out it was a faulty fuse block in the engine bay... but by them repacing it, it 90% solved the prob but it still happens... Instead of maybe happening once or twice a wk it now does it maybe once or twice a mo... So good luck!
