I need to know where to locate the master cylinder on the vehicle?

We are talking about the master cylinder for the brakes right? Every master cylinder I have ever seen is mounted high on the driver's side of the firewall under the hood. It needs to be just opposite the the brake pedal arm on the firewall. In other words look at the brake pedal arm inside the car upo under the dash and get an idea of where it passes through the firewall. Now look under the hood in that area. It will most likely look like a small can as they probably didn't have a power brake booster or split front and rear master cylinders back then.

master cylinder for 53 chieftain

This car is the exception to that rule. I had already traced all the brake
lines trying to locate it, and I know where to locate most master cylinders under the hood.
This cars' master cylinder is not to be found. OR, I have overlooked it.
I looked up the master cylinder online to see what that year part looks like. I am still searching.
Thank you very much, any more ideas, maybe.

Now I'm real curious too! Where do those brake lines lead to?

Guys
I have a 55 and the master cylinder is on the framrail under the brake pedal. If ur car was made in Canada it would be on the firewall.
They are easy to rebuild with a rebuild kit. But you will need a 3rd hand to put it back together. A neighbor helped me. lol

I've got a 51 pontiac starliner and i had it on a lift today.

My master-cylinder is the same as yours. look at your pedal assembly.

there is an access plate there around the pedals. it's located on the frame beside the tranny. you can't access it without removing the plate.

I found out when I pulled the straight 8 and tranny out today.
