I own an all original 1964 convertible Catalina. I’d like to upgrade the intake manifold, but from my research it looks the heads change from 64 to 65. I believe the Edelbrock intake for the 64, 389 engines, is an EP4B. I haven’t run into an EP4B that I like.

So, my question is, can I change the heads on a 64 to accommodate a newer Edelbrock intake?

If I were to take it further, will a 65 engine match up with a 64 transmission?

I’m having the original Rochester 2 jet Carb rebuilt, but I don’t think that’s going to alleviate the acceleration lag/hesitation the car is experiencing.

I appreciate your time and advice in advance.

I was able to change the heads and keep the original 1964 389 block. The wrecking yard said the heads were off a 1969 GTO 400. That allowed me to install an Edelbrock Performer Intake and 4 barrel Carburetor for 1965+ applications on my 1964.
