Ok so i have a 1967 Lemans that i have been driving for about 3 years without any major problems.
I recently started hearing a major squeaking/howling noise from the rear passenger side of the car. I believe it has something to do with the axle but i cant be entirely sure.
I have the car up on jack stands right now. I attempted to recreate the problem in my garage. With the car up on stands i put it in drive and the noise is almost non existent... until i let off the gas, at which point i continue to hear a grinding noise coming from the back right side.
Also note that the 67 does not have positraction so only the rear drivers side wheel will spin while it is up on stands.
I have checked my rear differential fluid level and it is fine.
I would very much appreciate some advice from the pontiac community before i tear my axle apart trying to figure out what is happening here.
Thanks for your time
